Face Shapes

We are all born with a unique face shape that defines our own individuality. Since our face shape cannot be changed, it's best to create harmony with the present features and identify what's complimentary to them. Most poor wig style choices are a result of failing to take into consideration the composition of the head, face, and lineaments. Understanding how to properly observe your facial features will unlock hidden beauty challenges and lead to rewarding wig style selections.

DIAMOND

The Diamond shaped face has wider cheekbones with a narrow chin and forehead. A diamond-shaped face has a variety of hairstyle options. However, styles that are best suited for this face shape is a wig styled with fullness or width around the forehead hairline and the lower cheekbones of the face near the chin. The hair should be styled smooth on the sides at the upper cheekbones where the face is broadest. A bang or a layered fringe will disguise a narrower forehead. Avoid styles that will expose the hairline.

OVAL

The Oval shaped face is considered to be the perfect face shape. The word "perfect" features allow you to wear more styles than any other face shape. An oval face is well proportioned, with the length of the face longer than the width. If the face is a fuller Oval face, adjust the style to accommodate the fullness of the face. A medium length style with some volume will make the face appear smaller. Styles that cover up the face should be avoided.

HEART

The Heart shaped face has a large and wider forehead, high cheek bones, and a narrow v-shaped chin. Faces with a Heart shape should select a style that is smooth near the eyes and fuller around the jawline. To soften the forehead, a bang will assist with camouflaging the width of the forehead. Styling the hair with a part on the side will reduce wideness around the top of the head and give structure to the heart shaped face. A chin length bob is great for this type of face shape as it makes the jaw area appear wider and more balanced with the rest of the face.

OBLONG

The Oblong shaped face has an elongated rectangular shape featuring a long straight cheek line. An Oblong face shape is complimented with a style that is shorter on the top with little fullness on the sides. To make the face appear shorter, a bang will give this effect. The best length style should be medium to short with top layers and/or graduated bob. Avoid long hairstyles. Long hair will make the face look even longer.

SQUARE

The Square shaped face usually has a strong square jawline with an equally square hairline. The goal for Square faces is to make the face look longer to minimize the Square shaped face. Short-to-medium length wigs with waves or roundness around the face or wispy bangs will soften the angular shape. Hair length should frame the structure of the jawline.  Off-center parts with height at the crown also look great on square shaped faces.

PEAR

The Pear shaped face features a distinctly narrow forehead. The cheekbones and jaw line are wider, while the chin has a rounded shape. A pear shaped face should look for wigs that will add volume above the jaw line. Layers create fullness on the upper half of the face.  If a bang is worn, angle them slightly and tuck them behind the ears to frame the jaw line and draw attention upward.

ROUND

The Round shaped face has a round chin and hairline with the widest part of the face through the cheekbones. This face shape looks best in a style that is longer over the ears, with the hair directed over the cheek area. Wig styles with fullness and height at the crown, but not at the ears, are a good choice. Off center parts help reduce the roundness. Shorter wig styles with swept-back direction or hair styles that are longer than chin length should be considered. If a bang is preferred, the bangs should be layered and wispy. Avoid solid straight cut long bangs with heavy density.
